CBCT represents a quantum leap in maxillofacial imaging. It has made possible the use of 3 D imaging of the head and neck at vastly reduced exposure and expenditure. Conventional 2 -D imaging, through serving us well, has been limited by challenges. Including magnificent, distortion, superimposition and misinterpretation of structures. CBCT with its innovative approach has prevailed over these short comings to give us accurate, precise, interactive images to help us provide the best possible diagnosis & treatment planning.
High Speed Scanning
Variable of F.O.V
Dose Reduction
Sub Millimeter Resolution.
CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography or Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography.
► In regular CT scans multiple rotations have to be made to obtain the image, whereas in CBCT all the required data is obtained in a single rotation.
► X-Ray Radiation exposure to the patient is up 10 times less than a regular CT scanner.
► CBCT is much faster. A CBCT Scan takes between 10-40 seconds, while a regular CT scanner takes a few minutes.
A semi-circular arm makes one complete 220 – 360 rotation around your head. While the arm is rotating, the sensor captures multiple images of the desired region. Later, these images are then reconstructed by the computer to create a 3D image of your internal anatomy during the scan you would ask to lie down on a table comfortably. To avoid any movement, your head will be placed on a soft cushion. This helps in avoiding repeat scans & undue radiation exposure.
CBCT is absolutely painless and the entire procedure takes only a few minutes, whereas the scan itself takes less than a minute.
It allows your doctor to:-
A CBCT is a very simple imaging examination that required no particular preparation on your part. You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. Anything metallic that might interfere with x-rays such as earrings, necklaces, piercing, hairpins or eyeglasses should be removed. The x-ray technician will ask you to remove dentures or other appliances, but it is advisable to bring these along to the appointment as the technician may on occasion want to use them. Sometimes your referring dentist may instruct you to wear a plastic stent or radiographic guide during the scan. This helps the dentist identify the ideal position on the future dental prosthesis that is being planned for you in such a case please remember to carry the stent / guide.
